HUMAN RIGHTS – IRAN – JAILS – EXECUTION
Washington, 17 June (IranVNC)—The human rights group, International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran, published on Wednesday the names of 114 Iranian minors who have been sentenced to death and are currently awaiting their executions in Iranian jails.
The international Convention on the Rights of the Child, which Iran is a signatory of, bans the execution of prisoners who were below the age of 18 at the time of their alleged crimes. Yet Iran and China are two of the most prominent countries that still carry out this punishment.
According to the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran, over the past decade the Islamic Republic has issued 177 death sentences for minors and has carried out 34 of the sentences; 114 others are awaiting their deaths.
The name of the 114 defendants can be found on the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran website.
