HUMAN – RIGHTS – IRAN – ARRESTS

Washington, 24 June (IranVNC)—While the protests by numerous international human rights defenders against the arrests of nearly 250 people protesting on 24 Khordad [13 June] in Mellat Park in Tehran continue, it was announced that three of those arrested have been put under special pressure.

The arrests occurred during a demonstration in protest over the arrest on 11 June of Abbas Palizdar, a former investigator at the Research and Investigation Committee of the Majlis, who had accused over 50 high-ranking and clerical figures of financial corruption.

The human rights group, Human Rights Activists in Iran, said in a press release posted on their website on Tuesday, that the condition of the three protestors, Mahboubeh Karami, Vida Dehqanian and Jalal Eqdami, is “of more concern” than that of the other 24 Khordad protestors.

According to the statement, Eqdami, the 30-year old brother of former political prisoner Jafar Eqdami, is being held in solitary confinement by security officers in Section 240 of Tehran’s Evin prison.

Karami, a 40-year old journalist and member of the “One Million Signatures Campaign”, demanding changes to Iran’s discriminatory laws, has been placed in solitary confinement in Section 209 of Evin prison.

Thirty-year old Vida [Fatameh]Dehqanian is also being held in solitary confinement in Section 209. She is being investigated and pressured over her alleged membership of the Pan-Iranist Party.
