RIGHTS – DEFENDER – ARREST

Washington, August 6 (IranVNC)—Mohammad Mehdi Habibi, a member of the group, Human Rights Activists in Iran, and a student activist at Isfahan’s Mohajer College, was arrested at his residence earlier today, the group reports on its website.

According to the report, security forces raided Habibi’s residence in Isfahan, arrested him and transferred him to an unknown location.

Isfahan’s Bureau of Intelligence placed a phone call to Habibi on July 9 [18-Tir], the ninth anniversary of the 1999 student uprisings in Iran, summoning him to appear at the News Headquaters of the Bureau of Intelligence reportedly in connection with an SMS message he had sent about the student uprisings.

Habibi at the time called the telephone summons illegal and demanded a formal summons and the right to counsel. Security Forces responded by threatening him with arrest.

Habibi’s family has made inquiries into his whereabouts at the Bureau of Intelligence, the Ministry’s News Headquarters, the Law Enforcement Force [LEF] information service and the Revolution Court of Isfahan. But these bodies say they have no information on the whereabouts of Habibi.
