IRAN – CONCERT
Washington, 6 August (IranVNC)—The general manager of Kerman Province’s Office of Islamic Guidance cancelled today the permission for the concert of female Iranian-American guitarist, Lili Afshari’s, which was scheduled to take place next week.
Afshari, an Iranian performer and resident of the United States, had been invited by the Musical Association of Kerman Province to give two concerts on 9 and 10 August at Emad Concert Hall, produced by the Beethoven Music Conservatory.
The conservative daily, Jomhouri-ye Eslami, today announced: “The general manger of Kerman Province’s Office of Islamic Guidance canceled the permit for the concert due to protests by the clergy, and cultural and administrative officials of Kerman.”
The newspaper went on to report that for Afshari’s concert “attendance by men also [had been] allowed,” and that presence of men in a guitar concert by a woman had been among the reasons for the cancellation of the permission for this concert.
