IRAN – STUDENTS – JUDICIARY

Washington, 19 August (IranVNC)—Iran’s Prosecutor-General today warned Iran’s university students against “creating political criss” and threatened that those who do not comply would be confronted by the Judiciary.

“Students who seek to create crisis and [tend toward] deviance in universities, will be confronted by the Judiciary,” Iran’s official IRNA news agency quoted Qorbanali Dori Najaf-Abadi, Iran’s Prosecutor-General, as saying in an interview.

He added: “Student crisis-making has legal consequences, whether [or not] it leads to political crisis-making.”

In the interview, Najaf-Abadi also threatened that Iran’s Judiciary would strongly confront students that “are disrespectful toward all of the holy figures and the Supreme Leader”.

The Iran-based Center for the Defense of Human Rights reported in May that between Spring 2007 and Spring 2008, 108 university students were arrested, 45 university students were interrogated, five were put on trial and 15 received punishments such as prison, lashings and monetary fines.
