IRAN – ACTRESS – TRAVEL – BAN

Washington, 20 August (IranVNC)—Iran’s government has banned an actress from leaving the country for playing a role in a Hollywood movie without seeking permission from Iran’s Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency reported yesterday.

Golshifteh Farahani was barred from traveling to Hollywood on Tuesday to consider a new role after she played a part in Ridley Scott’s film, Body of Lies, staring Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe.

The film is set to open in the U.S. and Britain on 10 October.

Farahani, 25, played the role of an Iraqi nurse in Scott’s movie, which required her to wear the full Islamic dress, hejab, at all times.

Regarding the reasons or Farahani’s detainment, IRNA wrote: “Iranian actors are required to secure permission from the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance to play a role in foreign films; nevertheless the ministry has not reacted to Golshifteh Farahani’s role in a foreign film or the news that she has been banned from leaving the country."
