FREEDOM MOVEMENT – AHMADINEJAD – LETTER
Washington, 22 August (IranVNC)—Iran’s religious-nationalist Freedom Movement Party [Nehzat-e Azadi – a liberal-described party] yesterday, in a letter to the speaker of the eighth Majlis [parliament], requested that President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s “lack of qualification” be reviewed by the Majlis.
According to Mizan News website, Iran’s Freedom Movement Party, in a letter addressed to Ali Larijani, the speaker of the eighth Majlis, after recalling what it termed as the “aspirations of the Islamic Revolution”, such as “independence, freedom, justice and lasting progress”, named the Majlis as “the most important and the strongest” institution of the country, the most important responsibilities of which are “legislating” and “researching and deliberation and supervising all affairs of the state”.
At the beginning of its letter to Larijani, this political party, whose founding goes back to 1961, cites Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeyni - the first leader of the Islamic Republic - as having said that “the Majlis spearheads all affairs”, and that the government and the executive branch, according to articles 87, 88, 89 and 122 of Islamic Republic’s constitution, are “accountable to the Majlis”.
The Freedom Movement’s letter to Larijani, appeals to articles 113 and 121 of the constitution, in which the president is held to be the defender and implementer of the constitution, the promoter of religion and ethics, the supporter of truth and justice, and the proponent of freedoms and honor of individuals, as well as the bulwark against tyranny.
This organization also said, that, in keeping with this, after the current government’s assumption of power, certain events came about which undermined and weakened the stature of this organ.
The Freedom Movement’s letter accuses Ahmadinejad of “blatant breech” of the country’s constitutional and other laws, and his tendency to “discount and disregard the position of the Majlis”.
“Repeated withdrawals from the country’s currency reserve” and “avoiding naming an economy and finance minister in a timely fashion,” are some of the charges brought against Ahmadinejad in this letter.
Ahmadinejad’s failure to get a clearance for his proposed nominations to fill ministry positions with the leader of the Islamic Republic, in advance, is also cited as a “dangerous precedence” to have been set by him.
The Freedom Movement’s letter, next turns to some other matters, which it calls the breech of Iran’s constitution by Ahmadinejad, such as “imposition of numerous restrictions on the press, political parties, social and civil activists” and also “endangering national security by foreign policy decisions and belligerent slogans contrary to logic, such as wiping Israel off the earth’s map, or the denial of the Holocaust.”
This letter also mentions “frequent monetary help without expectations of returns to Latin American countries” and “the bringing about of enormous economic crisis and intense inflation” and calls all these behaviors as “going beyond mere breech of the law” but as “bankrupting the character of [Islamic Republic’s] system.”
In conclusion, the Freedom Movement of Iran implores Majlis deputies to consider this an act of compassion in light of threats and dangers which lie ahead, because of the president’s and members of the ninth government’s “lack of judgment” with regards to carrying out their “legal obligations”.
The Freedom Movement of Iran is considered “illegal” based on the tenth article of the commission on political parties.
