Two students sentenced to jail, three others arrested

STUDENTS – ARRESTS – SENTENCED

Washington, August 24 (IranVNC)—Two university students, Sabbah Nasri and Hedayat Ghazali, today were sentenced to two years imprisonment for “unlawful assembly” and participation in student protests, Kargozaran Newspaper reports.

Nasri is a graduate student in political science at the University of Tehran and Ghazali is psychology student at the Alameh-Tabatabaei University, also in Tehran.

Both students have spent the past 14 months in prison.

The newspaper quoted Saleh Nikbakht, the attorney for the two students, as saying that the Revolution Court had announced the sentences against his clients to him today, but that he would appeal the decision.

Also today, two other university students – Faruq Ma’rufi and Mosleh Fattahpour – both of the Teacher’s College of Tehran, were arrested, Amir Kabir University of Tehran’s student newsletter [AUT News] reported. The charges against these two students were not publicized.

AUT News also reported today the detainment of Reza Negahdari, a student activist from University of Tehran.
