IRAN – MUSIC – LICENSE

Washington, 25 August (IranVNC)—Iran’s Kamkar music group, among that country’s most famous ensembles, who perform traditional music dressed in traditional Kurdish Garb, announced yesterday that Iran’s Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance has so far refused to issue a license to the group for a planned concert in the southern city of Shiraz.

The group requested a performance license from the ministry two months ago.

In an interview with the state-run Cultural Heritage News Agency, Houshang Kamkar, the supervisor of the group, criticized the delay in the issuance of the license, saying: “We have no problems performing concerts abroad, but unfortunately we face problems in obtaining a license and performing inside the country.”

The Kamkar group is due to perform at the well-known London Music Festival, which takes place on 24 and 25 October.

The Kamkar group was founded in 1965 and most of its members belong to the Kamkar family. They have since performed in numerous venues, including most major festivals and various locations in Europe and the United States, such as New York City’s World of Music and Dance.
