BRITAIN – JORDAN – NUCLEAR - COOPERATION
Washington, 30 June (IranVNC)—Britain and Jordan yesterday signed a preliminary civilian nuclear agreement, as part of Amman’s quest for alternative sources of energy.
“The memorandum will pave the way for signing a cooperation agreement between the two countries later this year,” AFP quoted Khaled Touqan, head of the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission as saying.
Touqan added that the two countries would work together toward the establishment of “a reliable source of nuclear fuel for future civilian light water nuclear reactors” in Jordan.
The British embassy’s deputy head of mission, John Casson, signed the memorandum on behalf of visiting chairperson of the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority, Barbara Thomas Judge.
Jordan, which imports 95 percent of its energy needs, signed a similar cooperation deal with Canada two days ago. It has also signed similar pacts with France and the U.S. and hopes to bring its first nuclear plant online by 2015.
