ISRAEL – IRAN – MOFAZ
Washington, 6 August (IranVNC)—Israel’s current transportation and deputy prime minister, Shaul Mofaz, called Iran today the “root of all evil” and denounced the Islamic Republic’s unclear program as a threat to world peace.
The Iran-born Mofaz announced his candidacy yesterday to replace the current prime minister, Ehud Olmert, who is stepping down amid a barrage of corruption charges.
“The Iranians are the root of all evil,” said Mofaz in an interview broadcast on Israeli Radio, adding a nuclear-capable Iran would pose “a threat to Israel’s existence”, Israeli newspaper Haaretz.
Reuters reports Mofaz is a serious contender in the opinion polls, but is still trailing current Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni in the race to lead the centrist Kadima party.
Mofaz is the former head of the Israeli military and has been one of the most outspoken critics of Iran and its nuclear program.
