Iraqi Kurdish leader visits Iran

Washington, 12 August (IranVNC)—The prime minister of Iraq’s Kurdistan region, Nechirvan Barzani, met Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for talks yesterday, Iran Newspaper reports, providing no details about the meeting.
During the meeting Ahmadinejad referred to the cultural and historical ties of Iran and Iraq, emphasizing the “deeply-rooted relations between the two countries.”
According to the report, Barzani said: “Tehran has consistently supported the Iraqi people in difficult circumstances.”
The English-language daily, Kurdish Glove, based in Irbil, Iraq, cited an anonymous source in the Iraqi deputy prime minister, Barham Saleh’s office as saying that later this week Saleh would be visiting Iran for talks on bilateral relations and on economic and political developments.
Iran’s semi-official news agency, ISNA , also confirmed Saleh’s upcoming visit.
