PAKISTAN – SUICIDE – BOMBS – TALIBAN
Washington, 21 August (IranVNC)—Two suicide bombers killed 64 people outside of a defense complex in the city of Wah near Islamabad, Pakistan today, in the deadliest attack on a military facility in the country’s history, AFP reports.
The Pakistani Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack that killed and maimed workers as they were leaving the plant at the end of their shifts, Reuters reports.
Pakistan has been a major US ally in the war against terrorism, prompting al-Qaida-linked insurgents to launch a surge of attacks on Pakistani security forces over the last year.
Gruesome reports of the aftermath of today’s attacks describe many severed limbs and body parts littered throughout the military complex of the arms plant.
The Taliban faction threatened to continue suicide attacks if a military offensive against insurgents near the Afghan border does not stop, reports AFP.
“If it doesn’t stop we will continue such attacks,” said Maulvi Omar, a Taliban spokesperson, by phone, Reuters reports. “The Wah factory is a killer factory where arms are being produced to kill our women and children.”
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Yousef Raza Gilani condemned the attack and ordered authorities “to make efforts to expose the hidden hands behinds this incident,” AFP reports.
