IRAN – ITALY – DESALINATION – SOUTH PARS

Washington, 26 August (IranVNC)—Iran and Italy signed a Memorandum of Understanding yesterday for the establishment of a desalination plant in Iran worth 100 million Euros with a daily capacity of 120,000 cubic meters.

The plant will be set up in South Pars oil and gas fields and will provide drinking water as well as water for petrochemical plants in Oslouyeh region, according to IRIB News.

This comes barely two weeks after Italy's Foreign Minister Frattini said that tighter sanctions against Iran would be the only solution to the longstanding standoff over Iran’s nuclear program.

The deal was signed by the representatives of Italy’s WTD company and Iran’s Firmeco Engineering and Installations firm.

Italy has already signed deals with Iran in South Pars oilfields worth 1.7 billion dollars, according to Iran’s Deputy Oil Minister Gholam-Hossein Nejabat.

Iran’s petrochemical output will reach 5 million tons by the end of this year, worth over $12 billion, with three-fourth of the output to be exported, Nejabat said.
