IRAN – KYRGYZSTAN – DNA – AIR CRASH

Washington, 26 August (IranVNC)—Kyrgyz health ministry officials announced today that Iran will conduct DNA identification of bodies recovered from Sunday’s plane crash in Kyrgyzstan’s capital of Bishkek.

“Unfortunately, Kyrgyzstan does not have a special service and equipment to make DNA analysis, and Iran offered help,” AFP reports the health ministry’s press service as saying.

The Kyrgyz health ministry said that it has identified six of the victims so far.

The reason for the crash, which killed 65 of the 90 individuals on board, is still unknown, but Russian experts are in the former Soviet republic to examine flight data recorders for clues, Reuters reports.

“The ‘black box’ is intact and the pilot is alive so I think we will find out the actual reason for this tragedy soon,” Reuters quotes Kyrgyz Prime Minister Igor Chudinov as saying.

Among the dead from the Tehran-bound flight were 44 Iranians. According to Reuters, Iran’s embassy in Bishkek said that the eleven Iranian survivors have left Kyrgyzstan and flown home.

Meanwhile, Kyrgyzstan's President Kurmanbek Bakiyev marked today as a national day of mourning.
