OBAMA – US – BULLDOZER – ISRAEL – PALESTINE
Washington, 22 July (IranVNC)—Ahead of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama’s visit to Jerusalem, a Palestinian man drove a bulldozer into vehicles in the city wounding at least 16 people, Reuters reports.
Obama denounced the attack and vowed to push for a peace deal between the Israelis and Palestinians if elected US President.
The senator, who is set to travel to Jerusalem later today, reiterated his support for Israel.
“Today’s bulldozer attack is a reminder of what Israelis have courageously lived with on a daily basis for far too long,” said Obama at a news conference in Amman. “I strongly condemn this attack and will always support Israel in confronting terrorism and pursuing lasting peace and security,” he added according to Reuters.
The White House shared Obama’s sentiments on the rampage, urging “all parties” in the Middle East to denounce the Palestinian man’s attack, calling it an act of terrorism.
“Terrorist attacks do nothing to further the goals of Israel or Palestine living side by side in peace, a goal the president has been advocating for, and that both of those countries’ leaders have been working towards,” said White House spokesperson Dana Perino today.
The Israeli authorities said the bulldozer attacker, the second this month, was shot dead, AFP reports.
