Washington, 29 July (IranVNC )—Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has appointed Russia’s former top nuclear negotiator with Iran as the new ambassador to the United States.
Sergei Kislyak is a deputy Foreign Minister, who represents Russian in talks with Iran over its nuclear program. He was also Russia’s ambassador to NATO in 1998-2000, reports AFP.
As ambassador to the U.S., Kislak will have to handle the increasing differences between Washington and Moscow on dealing with the threat of Iran as a possible nuclear power, as well as the controversial missile defense system the U.S. is seeking to establish in Eastern Europe. Russia sees this system as a threat to its national security, Reuters reports.
