Washington, 31 July (IranVNC)—Democratic White House hopeful, Barack Obama, believes Israel will launch an attack against Iran if the Islamic Republic fails to comply with international sanctions, ABC News reported yesterday.
Senator Obama met the Democrats in the House of Representatives late on Tuesday night, where he discussed his recent trip to the Middle East, and, according to an attendee, said: “Nobody said this to me directly but I get the feeling from my talks that if sanctions don’t work Israel is going to strike Iran.”
While Obama’s campaign office has not replied yet to IranVNC’s correspondent on this matter, ABC News quoted Obama campaign spokesperson Wendy Morigi as neither confirming nor denying the statement.
“Senator Obama has always said that Iran must end its illicit nuclear program. He has advocated tough, direct engagement, backed by stronger sanctions to pressure Iran. And he has made it perfectly clear that Tehran should not wait for a new administration to reach agreement to end its program,” ABC quoted Morigi as saying.
The United Nations Security Council has passed three rounds of sanctions against Iran over its refusal to halt it uranium enrichment program, which Iran says is aimed at peaceful energy production.
Yesterday, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said his country would not back down from their right to pursue nuclear energy despite pressure from major powers, AFP reports.
