Washington, 26 August (IranVNC)—Michelle Obama and Senator Edward “Ted” Kennedy addressed the country last night as the Democrats gathered in support of their nominee, Barack Obama, at the opening day of the Democratic National Convention in Denver.
During the convention this week, the Democratic Party will officially nominate Illinois Senator Barack Obama as its candidate for President of the United States on Thursday.
Senator Obama’s wife, Michelle Obama, spoke of her working-class upbringing and called on America to listen "to our hopes instead of our fears," and "to stop doubting and to start dreaming,” to thunderous applause.
Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy, who is suffering from aggressive brain cancer, also addressed the crowd, promising to be in the Senate to welcome the new president in January despite his illness.
"The work begins anew. The hope rises again, and the dream lives on," he said.
Former presidential hopeful, New York Senator Hilary Clinton, is expected to address the convention later today, in a speech expressing support for her former opponent, Obama.
