* Blogging politics:

In his weblog “Andishe-va-Ehsas” [Thought and Feeling], the blogger, Abuzar, looks at the student protests in Zanjan University, which took place after a university official sexually harassed a student. He calls these protests, “the protests of the third, dispossessed, revolutionary generation against the loose and immoral behavior of the Islamists of yesterday.”

“Society is falling apart. On empty stomachs, people are spending their money and assets to satisfy their sexual needs. So what? Don’t you and I do the same thing? To be free of such limitations and to avoid similar stories in the future, we must set society free: free it from religion for the sake of religion, of morality for the sake of morality, and of law for the sake of law. The revolution of the hungry, the needy, the frustrated, the downtrodden, and, in one word, the revolution of the people of the earth is on the way…”

In his weblog “Malakut” [Heaven], Daryush references some of [Mahmoud] Ahmadinejad’s statements about Imam Ali, the first Imam of the [Twelve Jafari school] of Shiite Islam, which is worth thinking about because on the one hand he calls Ali “a defeated ruler” and on the other hand:

“Ahmadinejad: ‘Imam Ali was defeated!’
Do you think staying true to one’s values is easily done? If so, the government of Imam Ali, which is the manifestation of God’s rule on earth, would have lasted. We must imitate Imam Ali. Know that wherever the true flag of righteousness has been raised, it has been met by unsheathed swords.”

“Think about it. First he says that Imam Ali was not successful [in achieving his mission] because things are not that simple. Then, he says we must imitate Imam Ali. I am confused. Is it that imitating Imam Ali leads to failure or is it that Imam Ali wanted to get certain things done and didn’t succeed?

…really talking about what he said any more than this is a waste of time. When he reduces the first Imam of the Shiites to nothing in two or three sentences because he doesn’t know to whom to talk to, what can we expect of him in other arenas?”

In the weblog “Siah Mashg” Samaneh takes a look at two scenarios in the next election: one where former President Mohammad Khatami runs for office again; another where he does not. She also analyzes his contradictory stances in the past few months and writes an open letter to him:

“These days there is a lot of contradictory news about whether or not the former president of Iran, Seyyed Mohammad Khatami, will run for the office of the president again. One day the cheerful clergy says he will run. The next day he skirts around the question and tells reporters he is considering it. The day after that he writes a letter to thirteen experts and asks them, what do you think? Should I run?

Mr. Khatami! Oh rejected leader of the Reform movement!
It has been years since the Reform movement became a casualty of the reformers and died. But the obsession you and your closest allies started, especially among various groups, including university student, progressives, the artists and the politically minded… will not fade away soon.

* Blogging social issues

The writer of the blog, “Cheriq online” [Online Partisan], writes a humorous blog in which he considers what would happen if one were to say the following sentence to the president in several countries. “Mr. President… Yo’ Mama…”

An excerpt follows:

“You say to the American president ‘Yo’ Mama…’. Nothing happens to you. Except you get famous and write a book about the president’s mother and make millions of dollars! But then the president sues you and you have no choice but to give him the millions of dollars you made….

You say to the Russian president ‘Yo’ Mama….’ The next day you die in a car crash! They inform your family that you were drunk-driving and got into such a terrible accident that your body was shredded to pieces

You say to the president of Saudi Arabia ‘Yo’ Mama….’ Everyone laughs at you because Saudi Arabia does not have a president. Realizing your mistake, you correct yourself and this time say to the King of Saudi Arabia ‘Yo’ Mama….’
Everyone stops laughing. And the King of Saud iArabia cuts off your tongue.

What! You say to the president of Iran ‘Yo’ Mama….’?!
I am so sorry. It’s too late. I have news for you. It has been a long time since the president of Iran began… Yo’ Mama, Yo’ Papa, Yo’ Brotha, Yo’ Sista, Yo’ Neighbors, Yo Wife and Yo’ Children. You didn’t know?”
