* Blogging politics

The author of “Politics Online” in a posting entitled “the rules of the game” analyzes the current actor in the political scene. He writes:

“[…] You can spend your petroleum money on building and organizing empty powers in neighboring countries, give them free arms and exports, which, in effect, don’t have a penny of profit in them for our country. And as for your diplomacy, you go after these African countries with a population of a few thousand people, which have never in their lives seen more than a few foreigners, and set up relations with them, and call this strategic. And oil at 140 dollars a barrel adds to the account of the country without you doing anything for it and so, party on.
“By the way, here some chess pieces have been left behind. Yes, people are these pawns. Pawns so flexible that you can not only play with them, you can have them dance for you. […]”

“Advert” is the title of today’s post in the weblog entitled “An Unspeakable Word” whose author is Arash, who has written a critical satire in this posting about the “passing of the new legislation for the protection of men in the family” in the eighth Majlis [Parliament].

“[…] Taking into consideration the fact that some 70 members of the eighth Majlis have two wives, it is difficult for this piece of legislation not to pass, and so please do not hesitate to get in touch with me without any further ado, because I have lost patience with just having one wife.
“[…]

“Women deputies of the eighth Majlis, especially the two who have signed the legislation in question, in case they should separate from their husbands, would be exempt from this law and even if I reach my limit [of four wives] I would be at their disposal under the jurisdiction of temporary marriage.”

Ali, the author of the blog “Salam” gives shocking statistics about the city of his residence, which is one of Iran’s cities hit by earth quake, saying that in the city of Zarand of the province of Kerman, five suicides have taken place in the space of 6 hours, all as results of psychological and emotional problems resulting from what he calls a “sociological quake.” He writes:

“[…] Unfortunately within the past few months, especially from the beginning of the current [Iranian]year [starting 21 March 2008] the rate of suicide in Zarand, especially among the districts hit hardest by quakes and among the young, has gone up abysmally. This situation, which one can call unprecedented in the country, has reached alarming rates in the past few months. Psychologists are of the opinion that many of those with inclinations towards suicide are influenced by mental and emotional problems and their hasty reaction to various problems is that of welcoming death. This certainly does not mean that they like death, but this group is in need of understanding and love of others. Perhaps this time these alarms could be heard more clearly by the cultural and executive authorities of the townships and provinces and make them think of a solution for this problem today, because tomorrow is too late.”

The author of the weblog “Modesty” draws attention to an analytical program broadcast recently by Iran’s official TV, which had attributed the rise in the price of rice to America, and writes:

“[…] The reporter addressed the situation of grains and said that this is a global problem and the reason for the high prices is America! Because recently America has been using corn in order to produce ethanol, this has caused the demand for other grains such as rice to be increased globally, adding that this problem is not only limited to our country, but has been going on in the entire region, for example, in Saudi Arabia the prices have risen 300 percent!
“At the end the reporter asked: is it right that the wrong policies of one country should cause problems for other countries?

“Thank God that America exists and one can blame all problems on it, otherwise who would be the cause of so many problems and stupidities?”
