* Blogging current affairs
The writer of the weblog “the coffin of thought”, has quoted some writings edited by his/her friend Farhad and has chosen to present readers with certain remarks of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s authorities, which he/she describes as “lasting words” and which form the contents of the blogger’s “daily posting”:
“…Commander Radan of Tehran Police: Tucking trouser legs inside boots is a clear example of violating Shari’ah law. Doing so will be a sin because the trousers will then become tight and will display some prominent parts of the body.
“Ayatollah Javadi-Amoli: The scholars of physics, chemistry and geology are ignorant if their titles are not followed by the prefix “Islamic”.
“Hasani, the Friday Imam of Urumiyeh: If we come across a heretic and become certain that he/she has truly become an apostate, we must burn him/her. And it does not matter if we do so by firing a bullet.
“Ayatollah Qara’ati: We, the clerics, always act like tear-gas; that is, we only know how to make people cry.
“President Ahmadinezhad: We are a country where there is freedom.
“Ayatollah Khaz’ali: Wearing the hejab [Islamic dress code] will help raise the level of students’ academic scores.
“Ahmadinezhad: We do not have any homosexuals in Iran.
“Ayatollah Amini, the Friday Imam of Qom: Stoning to death must be carried out in public.
“Ahmadinezhad: Iran is the top power in the world.
“Ahmadinezhad, before being elected: We will bring oil [revenues] to the people’s dinner tables.”
“Ahmadinezhad, after being elected: Oil is not something edible to be brought to [the people’s] dining tables.
“Elham, government spokesman [currently]: We are not brining oil to the people’s dinner tables because it smells foul.
“Esma’il Totori, a former Majlis MP from Kermanshah: If the Germans were human beings, they would not have elected a dancing woman [frivolous/good-timer] as head of state”.

Ali Jamshidi, in his blog, tells the true story of the head of a family who committed suicide because he could not afford to support his wife and children, writes:
“The poor hapless father was ashamed in front of his children because he was coming home every day empty handed. He came to the end of his tether because – believe me, for God’s sake - it is very difficult for a man to be so ashamed in front of his wife and children because he cannot feed them; and one day he decided to write his last will and testament. His wife thought that her husband was just writing this for posterity. The next day, he threw himself under a posh car and after his death his wife and children read his last will and testament, in which he had stated: Now that you are reading this, my soul is very happy because from the blood money which you will receive, you will be able to afford whatever you like. I could find no other way of helping you fulfil your desires”.

Another writer using the blog name “Adamak [Puppet]” has quoted an event which he witnessed several days before posting his story. He says that the measures taken by the vice and virtue squads to combat what they like to call “that lack of proper Islamic attire [hejab]” are ridiculous. His argument is that, in a poverty-stricken society, some women are forced to sell their bodies. On the event itself he writes:
“…we were driving in the city centre in the evening of Friday [ March 21]
which was the first day of the New Year [Persian: Norooz] and people were visiting each other. As we stopped at a traffic light I saw some patrol units of the Islamic Guidance Ministry looking out for their prey. And as one of my friends said: Imagine seeking human prey on New Year’s Day!! Then a patrol car stopped and a bearded man emerged. On the pavement I saw a woman clad in a chador, who had taken hold of a young girl’s arm and was dragging her towards the patrol car. The girl was so scared that she looked as if she was going to face the gallows!! I felt disgusted at anyone who carried a beard. It was at that point that I realized that our plight was not going to get any better and that this was as good as what we were going to get! …What is to be expected from a country where more than one third of the population live below the poverty line? It is so depressing to see your compatriot being forced to sell her/his body because of poverty. God knows that some people are exploiting religion in order to stay in power. These power-seekers are responsible for the decline of faith among the people.
